Create Unforgettable Memories Through Wedding Photography

Wedding Photography can be very rewarding and fun. Wedding is one of those magical moments of someone's life which he/she would love to create lifetime memory of. Photography can be a great avenue to do that. For a Photographer, taking Wedding photos can be a chance to show off their creativity and passion and earn a very rewarding career.

The most important factor about Wedding photography is planning planning and planning. If you don't plan and get organized in advance, your Wedding photography session may end up being a disaster. Remember Wedding is an event and if you miss a vital shot or something goes wrong with your Photography during shooting or post shooting, you can't retake it. So be organized and plan it well. Also you need to keep in mind that Wedding photography is mostly the shooting to make a great photo album; maybe it is online or printed.

It is always a good idea to sit down with the couple and their close family members and discuss about the photo shoot. It is a good idea to show some examples, know what they have in their mind and know about the special rituals or things they are planning for the wedding. If you can make a list of the shots you are planning to take, it is a good idea to show them the list and see what they think about this and if there is something they want to include. It will save you from chaos and clearly define what they can expect or not.

It is also a great idea to choose a photo coordinator from the couple's family or friends. Photo coordinator should know the family members, guests and the rituals well so that you can get some help if needed. He also can get someone or group of people to pose in certain way if required for the shoot. Try if you can get best man or bridesmaid for this purpose. It will save you a lot of headaches. Make sure to visit the area(s) where the wedding and reception will take place. It will help you to visualize the shots well and know the place to find out where and which corners or areas to stand, to get the best photo and to pose the couple, where the light will be coming from etc. If possible, take few photos of the locations and come back and process the shoots in your mind as you look at the photos.

Before you start to the venue, make sure that your camera(s) are in good condition and sensor is clean, batteries are charged and your memory cards are working and have lot of free space. If you use multiple lenses, make sure to pack them properly along with the other gears such as reflectors or tripods. Also make sure you carry extra battery, battery charger and extra memory cards with you just in case you need them. Also make sure you see the weather report to find out if you need to take other extra precautions in case weather is not favorable and very important, start early. Reach to the venue well ahead of the wedding.

Wedding photography requires a number of classic shots that must take during the wedding. These include:

The bride at her home: Shots of the Bride's preparations for the wedding, shots of the Bridesmaid's getting ready both individually and together with the bride.
The Bride's arrival at the venue: Take shots of the Bride and Bridesmaid's entering the venue.
The Groom arriving at the venue: Shots of the Groom with the Best man and ushers. Also pictures of the Groom's parents and other immediate family.
Inside the venue: It's good practice to use a tripod on these shots to prevent camera shake and blur. It can be quite dark inside the venue.
The Cake: Take the picture of the Cake. Cake only from different angle, bride and groom with Cake, cutting the Cake etc.
Exchanging of the rings: Get a couple of shots of the rings being exchanged and also the Bride and Groom kissing.
Signing the Register: Shots of the Bride and Groom as well as witnesses if possible.
Walking down the isle: The happy couple leaving the venue and also standing outside as the guests throw confetti.
Bride and Groom getting into the car: Take the shot as they are getting into the car and waving hands to the crowd.
Group Shots: I like to start with a large group shot first; while everyone is still together. After this I get shots of the two families and then of the Bride, Groom, Bridesmaids and Best man and ushers. Sometimes it is easier to go in reverse, taking the group photo last, depending on the occasion.
The reception: Take shots of the Bride and Groom entering the reception as well as the cutting of the cake and the glasses being raised and clinked together during the first toast.

Also make sure that different religious and social factors play a key role in wedding. For example, Hindu Indian wedding may last for 2-3 days and can have whole new set of rituals and requirements than Christian wedding. If you plan your Indian wedding shooting by keeping the Christian wedding in mind, you will end up in huge disaster. So make sure you get your general knowledge about different types of weddings through attending them or reading about them.

Always try to think out of the box. For example, you may like to go to a higher point and shoot the couple looking at you while they are holding each other or shoot the guests looking at you. Focus on wedding rings and be creative about it. Wedding cake is also something you must think about shooting from different sides and angles with and without bride and groom. If you have a ladder, climb up and look around and you may find some interesting angels to shoot. Make couples kiss and take it from different angles. If possible, ask them to go to a nearby park or a historic site or may be sea shore to make some romantic couple photos.

Get ideas from other great photographers work and even from the movies. Look at other great wedding photographs taken by some legendary photographers or photos that get published in Wedding magazines. Look at the lighting, composition, couple's expressions and the surroundings that were taken into account while those photos were shot. You will get very good idea about wedding photography by looking at them and analyzing them. Get inspiration from movies. Rewind the wedding scenes in movies or TV shows for ideas. More you see more you analyze and learn and more unique you will get.
